Karman Mini

I had the great opportunity to lead the design of Sheffield's first test rocket - Karman Mini. Its purpose was to carry the MRAS avionics system to an altitude of 300m and safely recover it. The rocket was powered by a 24mm F-class Cesaroni motor and it has so far launched 3 times at Midland Rocketry Club.

We used OpenRocket to design the rocket and Fusion 360 as our CAD software. The first launch was quite unstable so the fine size was increased before the second launch resulting in a much more stable flight.

As mentioned previously, the first launch was a success but resulted in the rocket oscillating during the motor burn. To fix this the fins were extended. The OpenRocket for the improved rocket is shown below.
